Ocean Point Volleyball Club is proud to welcome Merrick McHenry, one of the most dynamic and accomplished middle blockers in American volleyball, as a summer clinic and training coach. Merrick brings world-class experience, elite-level skill, and a passion for mentorship to the Ocean Point gym.
A two-time AVCA First-Team All-American and 2024 MPSF Player of the Year, Merrick starred at UCLA, helping lead the Bruins to back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024. He finished his career as the program’s all-time leader in solo blocks (48) and holds school records for both single-season (.585) and career (.519) hitting percentage. He was twice awarded the prestigious Ryan Millar Award as the nation’s top middle attacker.
Merrick’s excellence extends to the international and professional arenas. He made his U.S. Men’s National Team debut at the 2021 NORCECA Continental Championship and currently competes in the 2025 Volleyball Nations League. He also plays professionally in France’s Ligue A with Nice Volley-Ball, continuing to develop his game at the highest level.
At Ocean Point, Merrick will work with athletes in targeted training sessions and seasonal clinics. His focus areas include: Middle blocker technique and transition speed; et defense, blocking vision, and hand positioning; quick-set offensive strategies; Mental approach, mindset, and character development.
A standout athlete from Bedford, Texas, Merrick also brings a unique perspective as a former state champion in track & field and recipient of the Dain Blanton Diversity Award. His presence in the gym embodies Ocean Point’s mission to train elite athletes who lead with excellence, humility, and joy.
When not competing internationally, Merrick will serve as a mentor and model for the next generation of volleyball players—sharing the knowledge, energy, and leadership that have defined his journey from Austin Juniors to Team USA.
