Note from the Club Director

Ocean Point Volleyball Club delivers a collegiate-like club experience that transforms young men into elite players and mature individuals, preparing them for life’s next chapter. OP was built out of a lifetime in sport—a journey that’s taken me across the country and around the world—and it exists to give back to the game and the people who have shaped my life and allowed me to achieve my dreams in this sport. I am excited to make a meaningful contribution to boys’ club volleyball in the United States and to stand alongside clubs across the country that bring the joy of volleyball to kids. I look forward to meeting you in the gym and on the court.

Alex’s Story

A Journey Rooted in Sport & Purpose

From the dusty fields of the baseball diamond, the beaches of Southern California, the hardwood at Pacifica Christian High School, and the legendary court of UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion…to the Olympic Training Center, the championship courts of Costa Rica, Tunisia, and Canada,  back-to-back NCAA national titles, the USA Men’s National Team gym, professional volleyball in the German Bundesliga to coaching at UCLA — Alex’s path has been anything but ordinary.

It started with baseball. In 2013, Alex pitched the United States championship game at the Pony League World Series, leading his Santa Monica team to a national title. But the summer of 2014 took a turn. Alex accidentally ran into and met Miles Partain on the beach in Santa Monica. Miles invited Alex to a CBVA U14 beach tournament at Dockweiler, and they won it. That tournament sparked a friendship and partnership that would change Alex’s life.

As young players, Alex, Miles, and Marcus Partain, all Bruins,  joined and helped found Pac6 Volleyball Club in the Pacific Palisades. What started with 12 boys at tryouts quickly grew into one the nations top teams medaling at 12 club tournaments and sending eight players to collegiate volleyball.  Miles and Alex went on to represent the USA with the beach national team, winning gold at the U16 national championships.

Alex’s journey with USA Volleyball continued indoors. He was selected for the U19 National Team, earning MVP honors and competing in international tournaments in Costa Rica and the World Championships in Tunisia. Alex has worn the USA jersey with the mens national team and with USA Beach Volleyball learning from some of the world’s best coaches.

Coaching

For the past twelve years,  Alex has had the honor of learning under some of the greatest minds in the sport. He’s trained with the U.S. Men’s National Team, representing our country in international tournaments. These experiences—combined with his years on the court—have helped shape how Alex sees the game and how he teaches it.  Alex is excited to return as a UCLA coach seeking to help build the program, build good young men, and to add to the storied legacy. He is equally excited to lead Ocean Point Volleyball helping to build the game in Southern California and the nation.
